Melissa's Bio

Melissa has been a parishioner since 1986, when she came to Escondido at the Age of 6. She is the second oldest of 4 girls. She speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish. She has been through all of the youth programs and was a member of the core planning team in high school. She took some time off when she went to college to get her degree in Communications, where she studied Radio, Television and Film. Melissa came back to help the youth by doing a comedic retreat video for the youth retreats 3 years ago. At that time, she noticed that the youth needed something more, so she volunteered her free time to help mentor the youth.

     In July of 2007, Melissa quit her corporate job because she felt God was calling her to do something else. Realizing that money doesn't buy happiness and that God had other plans for her. She then became our Youth Minister at St. Mary Church. Since then, Melissa's group has grown in size, and is encouraging and organizing youth to serve as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and choir members at the Sunday, 5:30pm mass. She has helped bring our church online, by helping launch a website for the youth and the parish just before the end of last year, along with the hard work of her trusted side-kick JP. Melissa is in charge of youth retreats, Confirmation, Sunday night youth group and other youth programs to keep the youth busy throughout the year. She will also be taking some of the youth on the World Youth Day Pilgrimage to Australia in July of this year.
